Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is an effective cosmetic treatment aimed at renewing and rejuvenating the skin. During the treatment, fine crystals or diamond-tipped tools are used to exfoliate the top layer of the skin, making it appear fresher and more even.

Why is Microdermabrasion Needed?

Look at your childhood photos and remember how your skin looked when you were 6 years old. Today, everything has changed, hasn’t it? Your face now shows unwanted imperfections, fine wrinkles, and the color is no longer as pink and fresh as in your childhood. Why do you look so different now? The reason lies in the way your skin functions.

Nature has given the skin the ability to renew itself. Throughout your life, the upper skin cells die off and stay on the skin, creating that typical “mature” texture that children don’t have.

What to do with these aging deposits? Of course, remove them! Without this procedure, modern skincare would be unthinkable. Removing the top dead skin layer not only improves the skin tone and evens out the texture, but also stimulates the renewal of the epidermis, promotes the production of elastin and collagen, and restores the youthfulness and freshness of the skin.

Features of Microdermabrasion

The procedure involves mechanically sanding the top skin layer. For exfoliation, aluminum oxide or diamond powder is used:

  • Aluminum oxide: In this case, the powder is applied to the skin under pressure and then vacuumed back along with the removed particles.
  • Diamond microdermabrasion: This treatment is performed with a device that has a diamond-tipped end. This procedure is gentler and provides a mild cleaning, but is more expensive. The best option is determined by the specialist. Diamond treatments are recommended for those with high skin sensitivity and a tendency to irritation.

Other Features of the Procedure:

  • Completely painless: During the treatment, the patient feels no discomfort, only a mild tingling sensation on the treated areas.
  • Speed: A facial microdermabrasion session takes about 30 minutes.
  • No recovery time: After the treatment, a slight redness may occur, which disappears within 20 minutes to 5 hours. This is why the procedure is often referred to as a “weekend treatment” — you can go back to work or attend an event the next day, and your skin will look perfect.

Option to have it done once or in a course: For a quick skin boost before an important event, a single session is enough. For addressing skin concerns, a course of treatments is required.

The average course may include:

  • 1-6 sessions: Skin rejuvenation, initiating regeneration, removing fine wrinkles, and deep cleansing.
  • 6-12 sessions: Removal of deeper wrinkles, correcting scars, reducing pigmentation, and eliminating scarring and burns.
  • 10-20 sessions: Removing acne scars, pronounced post-traumatic spots, and reducing tattoos.

Reviews of microdermabrasion confirm its effectiveness after the first session. However, for the best results, it is recommended to follow a full course.

How Safe is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is completely painless and safe. The treatment does not require anesthesia or recovery time. The power and intensity of the equipment are constantly controlled by the cosmetologist. After the procedure, the skin is treated with special serums to speed up the healing process.

You can immediately return to your normal routine. It is recommended to use sunscreen and avoid alcoholic lotions, as well as using a tanning bed for one to two months. For optimal skin regeneration, a period of 7–10 days is needed, and this is the best interval for follow-up treatments, although it may vary from 1 to 6 weeks based on the indications.

How Does Microdermabrasion with Aluminum Crystals Differ from Diamond Microdermabrasion?

  • Microdermabrasion with aluminum crystals: This method uses pressure and the suction of the removed particles.
  • Diamond microdermabrasion: Provides a gentler approach and resembles at-home dermabrasion remedies, but in a stronger version. The diamond tip rotates rapidly and directly works on the skin, while the vacuum only suctions the removed skin cells.

Diamond microdermabrasion offers a more delicate treatment, and the vacuum is only used to suction the exfoliated skin cells.
